These photos are a few examples of the achievements of FLO (Fondation Lucie Otaenga), with most of the photos taken by Ken Kobre.

A riverside market at which basic commodities are sold. Few Lotumbe residents have canoes, and are not able to access such markets. With an additional canoe, FLO will be able to purchase and transport goods to the village community store as well as sell items from their own gardens and garments made at the sewing school.

Free pre-natal care funded by FLO provides an incentive for pregnant women to receive healthcare at Lotumbe’s hospital.

Eyeglasses donated by Australians which are stored at the hospital and given out to needy members of the community. This fledgling effort is part of an eye care education program initiated by HandUp Congo, in collaboration with Congo’s Ministry of Health.

A community loan meeting for the FLO microfinance project.

FLO’s president Chantal Bolingo greets marginalised pygmy women and provides much needed supplies.

Lucy Hobgood-Brown (centre) is flanked by two of FLO’s management committee, with a sign promoting FLO’s cafeteria.  The cafeteria is a micro-enterprise; selling coffee and homemade bread rolls at the hospital to patients, families and workers. This generates income to provide medical care for marginalised pygmy women and for women in the maternity ward.
